“Yo, come by the crib and see this brick wall!”.Van Bro hounded me about this fuckin' wall for weeks. I finally give in. It was about 4:20pm and through the weeds , the brick wall was READ. Outdoor gallery was written all over it. EXACTLY. And the seed of F.O.A.M.- The Found Objects Art Museum was planted. The following week, Van Bro and I (with my new incarnation of Ghetto Picasso) formed Black Trash.
Black Trash is a lifestyle. where people of color and colorful people live a life that is sustainable. conscious. passionate and creative. the black trash logo is a portal to innerself (innerblaze), a path to true wealth and glory. our mission is to raise global consciousness and awareness amongst people of color around the world.
And together, we flipped the backyard of his brownstone into The Brooklyn Bungalow. A dystopian version of Epicurus' "The Garden", we landscape designed the outdoor space into a semi-private oasis with found and reclaimed material. Every detail was done wit curbside junk. The centerpiece was "the pool of pennies". For our summer-long wine-tasting socials, we asked our guest to BYOB wine and a handful of pennies. According to Van Bro, the penny was the most overlooked found object. The initial offering of pennies came from Van Bro himself. About $500 dollars worth.
Another note worthy and absolutely brilliant aspect of The Brooklyn Bungalow was the canopy of art. For this, the paintings and illustrations I found for Brooklyn R.A.P. (rescued art project), were strung together and suspended over the backyard. Like a canopy. With a good sense of humor and imagination, one could sense Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel.
